Aramis Ayala announces run

Experienced Attorney Launches
Reform Campaign in Orange and
Osceola Counties Circuit

(“AIR-ah-miss  Ah-YA-la”)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -  March 1, 2016 -

The 9th Circuit State Attorney’s election just became competitive, with Democratic challenger Aramis Ayala filing to run today. Ayala, a former state attorney, public defender, and lawyer in private practice, plans to bring her years of experience to serving Central Florida.

“Our State Attorney’s office is being mismanaged,” Ayala told media. “I am an informed source, having worked there for two years to witness an office plagued by ineffective and inefficient use of staff.”

Ayala cites the office’s recently-merged Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence divisions as a strong motivation for her campaign, noting that the cost of the merger is paid by the victims, who are being underserved by the cuts.

“These are specialized units that require prosecutors who specialize in these specific areas of law.” said Ayala. “The talent of these prosecutors is being diluted by an inefficient office structure. That’s unfair to the people and their justice system.”

The announcement ends weeks of speculation that a challenger would emerge to take on incumbent Jeff Ashton, the failed Casey Anthony prosecutor who recently made headlines for creating an account while at work, and then holding an embarrassing and unnecessary press conference to gain more publicity.

“The people of Orange and Osceola deserve better,” said Ayala. “People from all over Florida are tired and embarrassed of politicians making a mockery of their position. The State Attorney is one of the gatekeepers to our justice system. We need someone with integrity and a fresh vision to lead.”

Aramis has been an attorney for 13 years. She earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Florida. She also attended the University of Michigan and University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law. Ayala is an adjunct professor at the FAMU College of Law and University of Central Florida. She lives with her husband, David, and their two children.
